Dear Dr. Ava
Q & A, Single Women
by Dr. Ava Cadell
Biological Clock
Question: I’m a 29-year-old single, professional woman. My education and career have been the focus of my life as long as I can remember, but now I find my thoughts turning to the need to start a family some day. Since I don’t even have a guy yet, I’m concerned that I’ll be at an “at risk” age to have children by the time I have the opportunity to. At what age should I start to freaking out about the health risks associated with child birth?
Answer: This subject has been overstated in the news media over the last few years. Women in their 20’s and early 30’s are led to believe that time is of the essence, when in fact most gynecologists and pediatricians agree that women can easily have successful pregnancies in their late 30’s and early 40’s. Other benefits of starting a family later on include, that your career is well established, you have more time to create a solid love relationship, more wisdom, better judgment, more financial independence, and more balance in your life. So my advice to you is to start looking for your guy, but don’t panic. One more thing to remember: no matter what age you become pregnant, it’s always important to monitor your pregnancy closely with your health care specialist to be sure the fetus is going to develop into a healthy child. Can I suggest – if you are finding it difficult to link with the men you would like to attract – that you watch my video, The Power of Seduction, and learn how to lose all those inhibition which have been holding you back.
