Role of a Love Coach
- Let your clients know your credentials up front. For example, you are a certified Loveologist, not a counselor or therapist.
- Make it known that you offer love coaching, education and an interactive role as a coach, not medical or therapeutic advice.
- Find out what your client specifically needs coaching on. Let them know if it is realistic and if you can help them. If not, be truthful, refer them to someone who can help them rather than disappointing them.
- Discuss your fees and forms of payment that are acceptable up front.
- Discuss and determine the time of coaching session(s) up front.
- Help clients to achieve their goals, not to fix them.
- Guide clients to focus on future success, not focus on past failures.
- Assist clients to monitor their successes and celebrate their accomplishments.
- Be supportive and motivating, don’t try to treat or heal clients.
- Act as a sounding board and ask your client probing questions when necessary.
- Teach tools and techniques that clients can use to achieve their personal goals.
- Keep your boundaries professional and respectful at all times.
- Give homework assignments to help clients achieve their chosen goals.
- Encourage clients to seek other forms of coaching, counseling or therapy if they need it. Love coaching can be used concurrently with other professional analysis.
When sensitive material is being discussed, it is important that as a Love Coach, you establish a safe environment and a strict code of ethics, not only so your clients can open up and feel comfortable, but also to protect both you and your client from misunderstandings. You can do this by adhering to your ethical responsibilities as a Love Coach.
Client Disclaimer: It is imperative that before you begin working with a client, you have them fill out and sign a Love Coaching Agreement. This document can be e-mailed to your client on the day you set up their appointment and signed and returned before the first session. Confidentiality and Other Guidelines:
- Never share your clients' personal information with ANYONE except your Love Coaching supervisor (unless if you feel that they may hurt themselves or another person)
- Do not discuss your personal sex life with your clients
- Do not judge, ridicule or belittle your clients
- Do not give or accept personal gifts to/from clients
- Competence: Love Coaches should provide services and represent themselves as competent only within the boundaries of their education, training, license, certification, consultation received, supervised experience, or other relevant professional experience.
- Love Coaches should under no circumstances engage in sexual activities with current/ past clients or friends or relatives of past/present clients.
Love Coaching is an evolution of Life Coaching and has absolutely nothing to do with Mental Health Therapy. In fact it is imperative that Love Coaches refer serious cases to appropriate resources, be it Gynecologists, Urologists, Psychiatrists, Therapists, Counselors, Sexologists, Social workers, etc.,
The Certification for a Loveologist is not to be confused with the qualifications of a Licensed Therapist, Marriage Counselor or Clinical Sexologist. Counselors and Therapists are trained to examine the patient’s long life history, from childhood until the present, and could take years to treat. Their schooling consists of many years of University and specialty training involved in particular fields of study. A typical Counselor or Therapist may spend 4 to 5 years earning a Bachelor’s degree, and then spend another 2 or 3 years acquiring a Master’s degree in a specified interest of focus. Once completed, they continue to train and must do 3000 intern hours in order to open up their own private practice where they can diagnose and treat psychological illnesses. The money spent may cost anywhere from $10,000 - $100,000 and there is no guarantee that they’ll make back the money they invested.
A Certified Loveologist will train anywhere from one month to one year to receive their certification, designed to teach students based solely from Loveology University's books, courses and related materials. As a Loveologist, you are not able to diagnose or treat any sort of illness or disease, but you can help guide clients to enrich their relationships in person, on the phone, over the internet or in workshops and seminars. Once certified, continuing education training and seminars are very similar, if not directly, the same as for a Marriage Family Therapist or Social Worker would receive. However, your total investment is under $2,000.00.
